Preparing for your engagement session can be intimidating to some so here are a few pointers to get the most out of your session: 1. One of the most important reminders is that this is a session about YOU and your love story. Be relaxed and just be yourselves. Try to think of it as another day of creating memories together.
2. Make this engagement session your own. I love it when my couples choose locations or bring props that are of value to them. For example, some of my clients love the water so they choose to do their session by the lake. A few have brought champagne and wine glasses because they love wine and often go to wine tastings. You could choose the spot where he proposed, where you first met, or in your first home together. What is your favourite season? Do you love flowers? What is your favourite hobby together? There are so many ways to make this unique to you.
3. If you are bringing props remember to be context appropriate. If your session is outdoors bring a blanket so we can create a bigger variety of poses.
4. The biggest question always is, what do I wear to my engagement session? I have the following tips. Dress according to the environment; for example if the setting is more urban then something dressier will work. Feel free to bring a second outfit which could be a little more casual to change the look of your session. Don’t wear matching clothing but think of ‘complimenting’ and not ‘matching.’ If you want to go for a more timeless look then stick to neutral colours. Try to avoid loud slogans and too many patterns as this can be very distractive. Remember, I’m always there to give advice as well so don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions. 5. I always recommend getting your hair and makeup done professionally because you want to look and feel your best! You could book your trial for the engagement session, that way you know what to expect for your wedding day and how you will look in the photos.
